- First of all, can you present yourself and the origins of Coalition?
I’m the CEO and Co-founder of Nodle, a privacy-focused wireless IoT network that securely locates and connects millions of Bluetooth-enabled devices to the internet using the existing global smartphone infrastructure. Before that I had created FireChat, a peer-to-peer mesh networking app that enabled people to communicate via Bluetooth when there is no internet. That app became a popular tool used first at Burning Man, during several disaster recovery situations or during pro-democracy protests like the Umbrella revolution in 2014 in Hong-Kong.
2. Can you present Coalition?
Three weeks ago, the team at Nodle saw the growing need for a global contact tracing solution to stop the spread of COVID-19; one where people’s privacy could be preserved. Traditional contact tracing methods simply can’t scale with the speed and magnitude of the virus, and many people don’t report because they are embarrassed or ashamed.
3. Is Coalition really safe in terms of privacy?
We realized we were uniquely positioned to leverage our experience, our know-how and our technology to make a more privacy-centric tracing system that leverages secure Bluetooth and cryptography to allow for users to anonymously declare they are experiencing symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19.
User privacy and anonymity is at our absolute core.
